hiswheezy asked: was i the only person who noticed that the episode that introduces the idea of barney/robin (at least in canon) is called ‘zip, zip, zip’ and last night’s episode, where barney sort of has this epiphany that robin is his soulmate, was called ‘tick tick tick’. i know it’s not much, but they have similar titles.

grooveisinyourheart:

echofades:

Can the next one be wedding wedding wedding.

Now we know that the next time a press release revealing a future episode title tells us that the title of some episode is one word repeated three times (perhaps Bells, Bells, Bells, or Tie, Tie, Tie or Duck, Duck, Duck, or Tell, Tell, Tell, or Yes, Yes, Yes, or Turn, Turn, Turn , or something similar) then we’ll know that that episode is going to be an important Barney/Robin episode with lots of scenes with them.

If I would have to make a (slap) bet with someone, I would put my guess on “Turn, Turn, Turn” as the the title of penultimate episode of HIMYM season 7/the episode that’s gonna be a big B/R story of “getting back together”. I shall keep it my knowledge why I’m making this guess.

I was wrong. The last 5 episodes are titled:

  • 7x20 Trilogy Time
  • 7x21 Now we’re even
  • 7x22 Good crazy
  • 7x23 Tell me a story
  • 7x24 The Magician’s code

But in a way THREE was kind of in an episode title. In 7x20. And I’m still hoping that my guess about an episode having a title which is the same word trippled will occur perhaps in season 8 then?

The most popular reason for a couple to break up: [according to HIMYM]?

notgoodwithadvice:

My thoughts while watching How I Met Your Mother

SPOILER ALERT!!!

I have noticed that the writers of the show have used one specific way/reason/event in many cases to create a reason for a couple to break up. It’s …………………………… [drummroll, please] engagement

  • Season 1: Marshall & Lily — their engagement made Lily rethink her life, and realize that she hadn’t done all the things she had wanted to do before getting married. She wanted to live her dreams before marriage. So she and Marshall “broke up” for a while. But they found their happy ending a year later.
  • Season 2: Ted & Robin — a false engagement. A champagne glass with engagement ring delivered at the wrong table ended up leading to their break up. They were moving too fast. Moving in together and all that. It took a false engagement possibility to make them see that they should go separate ways. They couldn’t accept each others little quirks, and see the world just too differently to make it work as a couple.
  • Season 3/4: Ted and Stella — Ted’s proposal and Stella’s agreement lead to their wedding day. But the proposal also brought back memories from the past, and those ended up being a crucial factor, and one of them [the bride] chose someone else from the past over the present significant other. So in a way the engagement lead to the break up on the wedding day. Because even if there were feelings between the two, they were not as strong as feelings for someone else.
  • Season 5: Barney & Robin — a staged false engagement ending up to be a real engagement. The groups plans to break the two up by making them move too fast in the relationship ended up being the start of a journey that lead to their “break up”. They were willing to take the next step, because they didn’t see any reason why not to, but they were not ready to take the step then, and so they decided to put that plan on hold, and go back to being “just friends”.
  • season 7: Robin & Kevin —  the shortest real engagement on the show, I think. All it took was him asking a question, and her giving a short answer for them to go their separate ways. Because she had doubts. She didn’t want him to give up some things because of her, and he wasn’t willing to give up those things for her. So they broke up.
So will the same technique work also for:
  • season 7: Barney & Quinn — will it take another engagement on the show to break up another relationship? Just like Ted & Robin in season 2, Barney & Quinn are moving too fast in their relationship. Out of nowhere they decide to move in together early [too early in their case] in their relationship. And the spoilers are out there that say that they will get engaged pretty soon, too. Weather it is a real engagement, or will there be another champagne glass delivered at the wrong table [Lily’s/the groups plan?] … I do not know. But of this I am certain: id they do get engaged, then there will be a deal breaker in their relationship that will lead to the inevitable break up.  When and how.. I do not know. But I hope they used the option to mirror season 2 Ted/Robin and season 7 Robin/Kevin events in here. It’d be a wasted opportunity if they wrote it any other way. I’d really love if B/Q making rash decision about moving in together, and then realizing how different they actually are, and how some of the others quirks irritate them would come into play. Mirroring S2 T/R. And more importantly how Robin chose Kevin over Barney for a little bit and how that hurt him. And now Barney choosing Quinn over Robin for a little bit will hurt her. But in the end … it’s Barney & Robin who have the chemistry, not the others. All they need now is just the right time. To get their timing right.

The writers/creators of the show have said in the interviews that Barney will get married. On that future day that we’ve seen in 6x01 and 6x24 and 7x01 [and will see in 7x24]. That’d he will get married on THAT day. That he doesn’t get cold feet and run or anything like that. To me it now occurs that what they could mean by that is this: if the B/Q engagement will lead to actual wedding plans, and wedding day, then that is the day when he doesn’t go through with it. In 2012. But in the future [2013 or later?] when he is getting married to his best friend and soul mate [Robin], he will get wedding jitters, but that’s normal, and he will get married on THAT day.

THOUGHTS?

What does the Slap Bet mean for B/R/T? by @leonora68

notgoodwithadvice:

I LOVE TO READ THESE KINDS OF POSTS AND SPECULATIONS AND THOUGHTS.

Found this post at LJ: BrOTP shippers corner

I recently rewatched ‘Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap’ and it got me wondering about the slap bet and what its significance is within the show. Of course on one level it’s just a funny running gag, but like most things on HIMYM I believe it has a deeper meaning as well.

I think that the slaps represent ‘conflict and resolution’, particularly with regard to the B/R/T love triangle. I feel that with CB saying the finale will “pay off something which we set up in ‘Disaster Averted’”, there will be another slap in the finale which will somehow resolve, or help to resolve, the current situation. To explain what I mean, let’s look at it in the context of each episode in which the slaps have so far been delivered.

Slap #1. Occurs in 2.09 ‘Slap Bet’. At this point, T/R are dating, and up to this episode their relationship has appeared pretty much perfect. However, in ‘Slap Bet’, they start fighting about her secret past and her lie about being married (=Conflict). There is also conflict between Barney and Marshall who argue over what Robin’s secret might be and thus create the slap bet. When Robin Sparkles is revealed, T/R stop fighting, and Marshall slaps Barney (slap=Resolution). However, future conflict is set up (unknown to the characters or audience at that time) because it is Robin Sparkles who will lead to B/R sleeping together and B/T falling out in S3, thus kicking off the love triangle.

Slap #2: Occurs in 2.16 ‘Stuff’. This episode sees T/R’s first and most serious fight as a couple, over him getting rid of stuff his exes have given him and then Robin getting rid of her dogs (Conflict). At the same time, Barney and Lily are in conflict about her play, with Barney attempting to prove his point by staging his one-man show starring the robot who falls in love with the toaster oven (which we all know represents himself & Robin). Marshall slaps Barney after Lily concedes defeat about the play, but the T/R conflict escalates, only to end with them abruptly deciding to live together. However, this apparent resolution proves to be short-lived only two episodes later, when T/R are prevented from moving in together by a clearly jealous Barney. This continues the pattern in which the slap = ‘Conflict – Resolution - Setup for future B/R/T conflict’ as seen in ‘Slap Bet’.

Slap #3: Occurs in 3.09 ‘Slapsgiving’. T/R are unable to be true friends in the wake of their breakup. They sleep together in a backslide, causing further conflict between them and within the group as a whole, as Lily becomes angry with them for ruining Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Barney and Marshall are in conflict over the third slap (it all goes a bit meta here!) and the Slap Countdown, which also angers Lily. At the end of the episode, everyone makes up, Lily allows Marshall to deliver the third slap and everything appears fine, with no future conflict being set up. This is because Ted is now in denial about his feelings for Robin. However in 3.16 (note the pattern of episodes – don’t know if it’s coincidence or not) ‘Sandcastles in the Sand’, the setup from the first slap comes back when B/R sleep together and Ted is angry. This is resolved in the S3 finale just a few episodes later, however, and we see no further slaps until S5. This plot device permits Ted to discover that Barney is in love with Robin in S4 without getting angry, and give his apparent blessing to them dating.

Side comment – I think that slapcountdown . com is a message / joke to the audience about ‘spoiler culture’. Barney first tells Marshall he’s blown it by ‘taking all the suspense out of it’, but later admits that knowing what is about to happen, and when, is ‘mental torture’. I think they’re trying to tell us here that they believe spoilers aren’t always a good thing. Ironically, this episode follows directly after the one called ‘Spoiler Alert’. Coincidence? Hmm, I think not.

Slap #4: Occurs in 5.09 ‘Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap’. This episode has multiple conflicts – M/L, Lily/Mickey, and of course T/R, who are set up by Marshall to fight over slapping Barney. The contest between T/R rapidly escalates into an actual fight, during which Ted suddenly blurts out “You slept with one of my best friends!” Robin says “You said you were OK with that”, to which Ted answers “Well I’m not”. When she asks why he didn’t say anything at the time, he yells “Because I’m still in love with you!”, causing Robin to look stunned and Barney to stare at Ted in shock. Robin asks Ted if he’s lying so that he can win the slap contest, to which he replies “I just really wanna slap him”, neither confirming nor denying the truth of what he’s just said. B/R clearly choose to believe it was a lie; however, Ted plays it pretty real, so I think it’s a true expression of his feelings suddenly coming out in the heat of the moment.

Note that this takes place just two episodes after ‘The Rough Patch’, so it’s as if the show has been waiting for B/R to break up before hinting at Ted’s feelings again. The slap is delivered at the end of the episode when all the conflicts have been resolved, and Marshall (parodying a ‘moralizing dad’ character from an oldstyle sitcom) talks of how the slap has brought them all together. But in the same pattern as S2, it also kicks off the return of the B/R/T love triangle, setting up the events of 5.21 ‘Twin Beds’, where we see B/T fighting over Robin and her rejecting them both in favour of Don. After this, there are no more slaps for two whole seasons. This coincides with both Ted’s and Barney’s feelings disappearing off the radar (Ted’s a little more convincingly than Barney’s) while all three characters move in different directions romantically throughout S6, so there’s no real conflict between them.

Which brings us to Slaps #5 & 6, in 7.09 ‘Disaster Averted’. (Note episode number yet again). This is the most subtle use of the slap bet so far, in a hugely complex and important episode whose full significance I don’t believe we can understand yet, but I believe it follows the same Conflict/Resolution/Setup pattern which I’ve described above.

Conflict/Resolution: The flashback part of the episode contains multiple, relatively minor, conflicts, which are all resolved very positively. M/L are bickering, but they reconcile and conceive their baby. Robin is upset that her father hasn’t called her, and gets angry with Barney for the fake phone call. The next morning, Barney apologises, she forgives him and they almost kiss, and her father calls. There’s some other minor bickering within the gang, but they are all brought together in the end. The hurricane raging outside may also represent conflict, which - literally - ‘blows over’ the next morning. Meanwhile in the present day, Barney is fighting conflicts on several fronts – with Marshall over the ducky tie; in his own mind about meeting Nora’s parents, and (very subtly) with Kevin when he calls him on this. All of these are resolved when Lily awards Marshall the three extra slaps.

Setup: However, it is Marshall delivering two consecutive slaps which leads to B/R sleeping together and thus to the rest of the season’s events. The slaps therefore a) directly bring back Barney’s feelings, and b) indirectly bring back Ted’s feelings, because if B/R hadn’t hooked up then Robin wouldn’t have discovered she is infertile which led to the R/K breakup and Ted’s declaration in ‘No Pressure’. I believe this is one reason why there are two slaps and not one (one representing each of B/T). Another reason may be that these events are far more important than any that have gone before, so there’s an extra slap for emphasis, so to speak!

As things currently stand, we have an effectively unresolved B/R/T triangle, with none of them involved with each other but just kind of circling each other. I believe that there will be a Slap #7 in the finale which will bring about the resolution of this. It may possibly be connected to the ducky tie and Barney’s ‘tie’ conversation at the wedding. Or maybe the person who jokingly suggested that Marshall would slap Barney into dumping Quinn wasn’t so far wrong! Also, it will most likely coincide with killing off Ted’s feelings for Robin once & for all.

Finally, we know that Slap #8 will occur in the S8 finale (eight seasons, eight slaps) and I think it will be the one which will finally wrap everything up – maybe get Barney out of his wedding jitters, and possibly somehow lead to Ted meeting the Mother. There will probably be a Robin Sparkles connection of some kind as well, just to link it back to where it all started (or maybe that part’s just my wishful thinking!) :-)”

My thoughts? I hadn’t made such a strong connection between the slaps myself, but this is a great point. I have believed for a while now that the last/one of the last slaps will occur sometime when it’ll be related to Barney’s engagement/wedding events. But this person has made a good point with the [possible] connections.

I do think that part of the reason between the same episode numbers in different seasons having the same tone is because of when those episodes air. Like the sweeps episodes and such. Plus who is the writer of these4 episodes. But I am also certain that part of the reason is the writers/cretors master plan. These are all parts of the main puzzle.

There are much more connections between different seasons. With the same episode numbers and such.

  • 2x09 and and 3x09 and 5x09 and 7x09 [you just got slapped]
  • 1x14 and 3x14 and 4x14 [BrOTP are ready to help the other. To score a date, to find the blonde mystery stalker, to get a job and not get deported]
  • 2x18 and 7x18 [T/R and B/Q moving planning to move in together]
  • 6x04 and 7x04 [BrOTP are being good friend to the other. He helped her win the race, she helped him to get rid of his past]
  • 6x12 and 7x12 [a false assumption that someone’s pregnant]
  • 5x12 AND 6x12 [codeword: suits. Barney chooses the suits/girl. Barney gives away his other suits]
  • 6x11 and 7x11 [theme of the episode: pregnancy and babies]
  • 6x16 and 7x16 [Barney meets a new girl]
  • 6x01 and 7x01 + 6x24 and 7x24 [future wedding reveal. Groom/Bride reveal]

…. there’s more, I know. I just can’t think of any more right now. Feel free to add, though.

What is in the box? HIMYM edition [SPOILERS]

notgoodwithadvice:

What’s in the box? What’s in the box? What is in the box? What’s in the box?

My thoughts on the topic of “What’s in the box” regarding the HIMYM season 7 finale and the metal box Barney is trying to bring on an airplane.

These are purely random, and wild speculations and will most likely have nothing to do with what’s really in the box, and the actual storyline

TOP 5 THINGS “WHAT SHOULD ACTUALLY BE IN THE BOX” BARNEY HAS:

  1. It’s Robin Sparkles 4, y’all!: One more never heard of Robin Sparkles video from Robin Scherbatsky’s past.
  2. Stinson Productions Presents: Scherbatsky. Robin Scherbatsky.:  Barney-Robin sex tape(s)/disc(s)
  3. Little black box: An engagement ring. Engraved. With the name Robin inside.
  4. Barney’s list: The list of all the women he’s slept with, and the scapbook he made.
  5. NOTHING: I’ll never tell. Any of you.  I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. But the box is actually empty. That’s the magic trick. It’s all part of the master plan…

What IS in the box? What’s really in the box?

According to Joe Kelly, one of the writers:

Source: Joe Kelly’s twitter

btw, this is a totally different box [most likely]

One more thing though… I wonder if the metal briefcase from under Barney’s bed [mentioned in an earlier season] come into play here, and it’s a metal box actually???

HIMYM: 18 dangling threads [SPOILER ALERT!]

notgoodwithadvice:

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s my guess what those 18 unfinished story lines/things could be:

  1. It’s creepy! aka Never date your therapist: When and how [and for what reason] will Robin and Kevin break up? [see season 7, 7x16]
  2. The mystery of the “Ugly Shirt Guy”: Whatever happened to the guy with the ugly shirt? Ted claimed that the ugly shirt will return. Or at least the guy, perhaps not the shirt. [see 6x21] We will hear about him again.
  3. The Slap Bet:  When and how will Marshall use the last two remaining [extra] slaps? The slap bet between Barney and Marshall. [see 2x09 … 7x09]
  4. Last cigarette. Ever.: What are the reasons behind Robin smoking her last cigarette in June 2013? and Barney in March 2017? [see 5x11]
  5. Ted, sundress up!: Why is Ted wearing the green sundress? What kind of a bet did he lose? What was the challenge he accepted? [see 6x11] Will be revealed in episode 7x18 or 7x19
  6. SRRS: Sandy Rivers/Robin Scherbatsky aka how  exactly does Robin’s career take a positive turn after that New Years Eve live broadcast? [see 7x13]
  7. Back up wife: How Ted lets go of the past, and finally moves on— (sadly I have little faith in tv writers to do it in any other way than re-visiting the ted/Robin story line, and giving ted closure in that way. A tiny part of me still hopes they won’t actually make them date again, just talk about breaking the pact.) —in order to finally be ready to meet the mother. [see 4x17]
  8. Marshall & Steph 4eva: How do Barney & Marshall end up gambling? And why is Marshall wearing a T-shirt saying “marshall and steph forever” [see 7x02]
  9. The missing daddy issue: Why is Marshall not there in the hospital when Lily goes into labour? And will he make it there before their baby is born? [see 7x03]
  10. The Ducky Tie 2: ” The Ducky Tie returns”: Why is Barney wearing the ugliest tie again, and what is that mystery phone call he gets all about? [see 7x02]
  11. Victoria… : What happened after Victoria got on the bus? Did Klaus experience the longest pause of his life after he asked a question? Did Victoria response with the single greatest word in English? [see 7x03]
  12. Bed of roses: Has Ted, the detective known all along, or will he put the clues together only in the future? [see 7x10]
  13. Pole vaulting: Robin telling his best friend(s) the difference between pole vaulting and “pole vaulting”. How will Barney/everyone else find out about the bad news doctor Sonya gave Robin in 2011? [see 7x12]
  14. The Chinese food theory vs The Olive theory: What’s up with Barney claiming he doesn’t like chinese [in a joking manner], yet eating chinese food all the time? But more importantly - does Barney like olives? [see 1x01]
  15. Dammit, Trudy, what about the pineapple?: How exactly did the pineapple get to Ted’s bedside table? [see 1x10]
  16. She’s a perfect match: Will Ted ever get to finally go on a date with the girl who, according to the smart computer, is (almost) a perfect match for him? [see 1x21]
  17. Have you met Mrs. Stinson?: Who is the BRIDE? Who is the “right tie” he chose? The woman Barney Stinson marries. And how do they get from just being friends/a couple to proposal and marriage?
  18. “The One”: Who is the MOTHER? And why is she at Barney’s wedding? Who invited her? Is she even on the guest list? And how exactly does Ted meet her?

“kids, early in any relationship, there’s a phase where you don’t say no to anything. because you want to seem interesting, adventurous, and open-minded. i call it early-relationship chicken.”

Re-blogging quickly just because of the tags.
I KNOW!!!!
One of my first thoughts were - whose ideas were all these “dates”/activities?  Because those are some strange challenges. So who put them up to this?
As I asked in my post about the episode 7x14 ”I wonder who challenged them to do all these things?”
The answer is coded also in the same post. With bold letter. B. All these activities start with the letter B. And being highly paranoid observant, I don’t believe anything is unintentional on this show. B stand for Barney, so I would agree that Barney had something to do with them completing all these “challenges”.
